Hay Fever
Hayfever (seasonal allergic rhinitis) is a common allergic condition caused by the immune system reacting to pollen. It affects around 1 in 5 people in the UK. Despite its name, hayfever does not cause a fever and you do not need to be near hay to develop it. The immune system releases histamine, causing inflammation of the nose, eyes and throat. Symptoms usually occur during spring and summer, although some people have year-round allergic rhinitis caused by dust mites or pet dander.
